Plan Iowa Week at World’s Fair

Million New Jobs Under NRA Today

The National Recovery Administration reports a surge in jobs and wage agreements as the new push lifts retail employment beyond a million. Iowa upturn in employment under NRA program new gains

Iowa shows a 2.8 percent July rise in employment as NRA measures take effect across business and industry. Sioux City leads with 7.9 percent growth, Fort Dodge up 7.1, while most sectors add jobs from June to July as 24 427 workers were employed in July. Some declines occur in patent medicines tobacco cigars and railway car shops. A separate Iowa Day Excursion offers two days at 11.75 with 19.95 expenses.

July Ends With Two Fine Showers

July closed with relief from heat as a 54 inch rainfall total fell amid cooling breezes. The month brought 2.61 inches, near normal, with most rain on July 14. Eleven days reached 40 or higher, the high hit 96 on the 30th and the low 55 on the 25th. Eastern Iowa saw a near normal summer month despite the July 14 deluge.

Agreement Signed for NSA Plan by Iowa Southern

Fr. BB Miller, local manager of the Iowa Southern Utilities, received notice from Centerville that the NSA agreement code has been signed and becomes effective for 110 towns served. He was instructed to prepare a local program to be approved at Friday’s general meeting recording hours. Three employees are on the Washington payroll, with more to be added after the schedule and meeting.

Beauty shops set uniform hours for city

Beauty shops in the city gathered at Mrs. McAvoy's shop and agreed to operate 8 30 a m to 6 p m with Wednesday and Saturday evening hours. Prices were fixed as announced in tonight's Journal. No definite information has reached the shops yet.

Washington County lake campaign seeks extension for funds

Washington County Lake association president Carl W. Klein and attorney A E Baldrige travel to Des Moines to seek more time and a revised plan to raise the remaining 1100 dollars toward the 5700 dollar lake fund. Contributions so far total about 2529 from roughly 100 donors with further gifts possible at local businesses and the Journal office.
