Washington teen prom set in May at high school gym
In Washington the junior and senior classes plan their prom for Saturday May 3 from 9 to midnight in the high school gym. Dick Ballard Orchestra provides entertainment from 9 to 12. Earlier, a local resident reported a white car damaged mailboxes and yards near 1506 North Marion around 1 a.m. Tuesday as police investigate. The Washington High School Concert Band tours today with performances in Wapello and Waco under Ron Wise.

Washington County Mourns as Pfc Larry Smith Dies in Vietnam
Pfc. Larry E. Smith, 20, of Washington, killed in action in Vietnam near Loc Ninh. He was a 1968 Washington High School graduate, served since July 1968, and had been cited for bravery. Survived by parents Dale and Ruth Smith, five brothers, a sister, a foster sister, and grandparents. His death brings the county’s Vietnam toll to seven.
