Alger Story of Paul Horak Beats Odds in Insurance Field
The Washington county figure Paul R. Horak, once a paralytic farm boy, rose to fourth in auto insurance sales statewide. He credits facing his defect and a shift from newspaper work to insurance, plus a custom hand controlled car, for his success. He and Alida Van der Vennet married in 1937 and have two sons, Dick and Jerry. He travels widely using an adapted vehicle and reflects on mobility as a key to independence.
