Chas Minges pleads guilty to bootlegging and case is continued for sentence. Ollie Davidson Coppock not indicted by grand jury. H Davidson pleads guilty and case continued for sentence. Elsie Coppock pleads guilty and must pay special tax.
Mrs. Wm. Bongert reports no more trouble with renters after Mr. Russell and family left. She says they tried to move out without paying rent, but with an officer called and goods refused to be moved, they complied and the street along the Potomac is now quiet.
Local sport enthusiasts witnessed a quarter mile race where the gypsy horses faced off against Sorrel Dick, a crackerjack quarter horse. The crowd, led by John Pritchard, saw Sorrel Dick win after the starter urged the crowd to frighten the rival horse into speed. In unrelated news, Washington’s McCutcheon youth suffered a painful ear insect extraction by Dr. Stewart.
Hazel Smith is sick and Mrs Henry Ekicher returned from Winfield today. Dr Miskampe came home from Wins field at noon. Rev K H Thompson of Crawfordsville visits the city. The Bonhommie Cooking Club met with Mrs Will Law. Mr and Mrs Tipton of Lexington visited friends yesterday. Joe Lease and John Williams of Crawfordsville visited today. Mayme McLaughlin returned home to Monmouth this morning. Mrs Hibb Steck was ill yesterday but better today. Joe Huston of Crawfordsville stopped by. Mrs John Turbott and daughter from Ainsworth visiting. Gib Hailey visited Ainsworth yesterday. Eight horses were purchased for Hite in half a day. Mr Sherfey and daughter from Muscatine expected for the McKee Adams wedding. Miss Kessie Conger leaves teaching near the city due to poor health. Temperance meeting at A M J Church rescheduled to next Sunday. Dewey and Kellogg went to Cedar Rapids for the state G A R encampment. Official Iowa state map thanks to S. P. Gardner. I H L Tower of Milwaukee Mechanics' Fire Insurance Co. visited over Sunday. Silk umbrellas offered 75 cents to 1.50. Washington hosts multiple wedding events this week and a K P lodge reception set for April 30 at Castle Hall and Graham Theatre.
Notice of a special May election in Washington Iowa to decide a tax not to exceed 10000 dollars and bond issue of 10000 dollars for erecting and completing a ward school building in the Independent School District of Washington. Ballot language specified for or against the tax and bonds. Board secretary Geo H Mullin and president A H Wallace oversee the process.
