Des Moines April 26 report notes more than 400 candidates vying for state offices with about 40,000 signatures backing the incumbent slate. Governor Clyde N. Herring and other state officers are mentioned as part of the Democratic ticket.
The district lists Republican candidates for state representative Sh Mdmondson and L Stewart with no Democratic opposition. For state senate, Republicans A Clare Dewey and John Speidel are named. Democrats include Howard A Baxter and R EE Miller. Congressional filings show Ed R Hucklin of Louisa and L H Childs of Lee as Republicans, with RE C Fleher of Washington listed as a Democrat.
The secretary of state saw a rush of filings just before the deadline. More than 400 sets of papers were filed for nominations on the June 4 primary, with Democrats outnumbering Republicans by roughly two to one.

Tucson officers widened the search for June Robles six year old daughter of a wealthy family seized on her way home from school. A $15000 ransom was demanded under threat of death with two days to pay. Three suspects were jailed then released as not involved. The pursuit expanded into desert country.
William D. Kyle has taken over operation of the Standard Oil station at the end of North Marion Avenue. He brings extensive automobile service experience and invites locals to visit the new location.
George F. Pauls 64, longtime leader in La Porte City and head of Pauls Lumber, died yesterday after a despondent spell. His body found hanging at Eclipse lumber yard after a search by family. Survived by widow two sons and two daughters. Funeral plans pending. coroner declined inquest.
Four weeks of spring practice completed under coach Guy Carlton. A 20 man squad trained with scrimmages against West Chester high school, boosting inexperienced players including freshman Ronald Lowash and captain Harry Barker as improvements noted for next fall.
Word has been received of the death of William O Loughlin in Sioux Falls South Dakota on Wednesday at age 86. He was a member of a prominent pioneer family in the community and left Washington about fifty years ago. He leaves a son and two daughters, and was brother to Newton O Loughlin of Washington and Luther O Loughlin. He served the church and the city council with notable interest in community progress.
The six weeks old railway wage dispute ends with a no compromise deal restoring 2.5 percent of the 10 percent cut on July 1, 1934, another 2.5 percent on January 1, 1935, and 5 percent on April 1, 1935. The pact halts strike threats for about two million railway workers and cancels potential midnights mediation or a presidential fact finding panel.
Light shower in Washington dropped .12 inches and revived drooping vegetation, clearing dust and lifting spirits in the city.
A fire at Clarence Griffin's farm on 620 East Harrison Street seriously damaged the barn and chicken house around four o'clock yesterday. Hay corn and oats in the building were destroyed and the blaze was large before discovery despite strong fire department effort. The loss is partly insured. the property is owned by Charles Thompson.
Dr. N. G. Mortensen, city health officer, suspended by Public Safety Commissioner J. H. McDonald amid an investigation of reports that he failed to report assisting John Dillinger and John Hamilton with gunshot injuries. Mortensen admitted treating the pair on March 12 or 13 after a bank robbery incident, noting they were brought in by a man he had previously treated.
Washington April 26 the senate agriculture committee approved a favorable report on an amendment to strengthen the licensing and marketing authority of Secretary Henry A Wallace.
