Des Moines April 24 Iowa old age pensioners who own property qualify for the new homestead tax exemption refund program. County auditors are urged to push eligible pensioners to file by June 1 1937. The refund goes to the county for distribution to taxing bodies and pensioners receive a protective lien rather than a direct benefit. Officials estimate about 35 percent of pensioners are property owners and many homes could qualify.
Grand Master Throckmorton calls for a state wide Masonic gathering on Tuesday evening April 27. Washington Lodge hosts a 6 30 dinner at the Masonic temple with an eight o clock lodge meeting. Glenn Mace leads a special program and at ten o clock the grand master addresses Iowa Masons by radio with expected attendance from several counties.
Funeral services will be held at 2 30 Sunday afternoon at the L A Jones funeral home with Rev M C Carsten senior in charge of the arrangements.
Rex Beresford of the state extension service will address Washington county cattle feeders at the G A R rooms in the courthouse next Tuesday evening April 27 at eight oclock. The meeting will discuss the situation facing cattle men and a motion picture From Range to Feed Lot will be shown. All interested in cattle-raising are invited.

DES MOINES April 24 Attempts to adjourn the Iowa legislature were abandoned after the house passed to the senate without change a bill to reduce state income taxes. The measure would cut about $200 000 yearly and primarily aid lower income brackets. The vote stood 79 to 15. DES MOINES April 23 factions clashed over adjournment as the senate held a night session and considered bills including a 430 000 appropriation to reconstruct the fire rated administration building at the State insane hospital.
Nurse Ella Wiese will lead mother hood classes in Riverside Library on April 28 at 2 PM. Miss Mabie Olson will start a similar series in Brighton Legion Hall on May 6. The programs are free to all women and focus on prospective mothers and babies.
A brooder house housing 4066 baby chickens was destroyed by fire on the Joe BShalia farm one and a half miles west of Prairie Flower church. The Farmers Mutual fire truck arrived just after 1 pm after the blaze started. The stove in the brooder, not functioning properly, was blamed as the cause.
Will and Gladys Ahearn, famed eccentric dancers, will perform at the Fox Theatre Sunday through Tuesday in Git Along Little Doggie. Gladys, a niece of Mrs. Russell Frink, has visited local circles and the siblings have toured Europe and appeared in major vaudeville acts and notable revues.
