This evening at eight o'clock the closing session of the southeastern Iowa missionary convention will feature Dr. Frederick J. Kirchner of Des Moines. He is a Disciples of Christ educator and Drake University faculty member. A pre-program banquet precedes the evening speech and ministers plan short addresses at the church.

Farm Work Delayed by Weather Across Iowa Districts
A weekly weather and crop bulletin reports farm work slowed by wet soils and low sunshine through April 20. Oats and spring wheat seeding progressed slowly in drier counties while heavy rains in several counties caused reseeding and earlier freezes damaged winter wheat. Plowing for corn and planting of onions and potatoes began in Mitchell County amid seed shortages and high prices for seed potatoes.

County Bridges Damaged by Floods Across County
County Supervisor A J Morgan surveyed flood damage in Coppock and Noble after last Monday night storms. Bridges on Williams Creek, including a fifty foot span, were washed away and damaged approaches closed two roads. Three miles of Burlington railway tracks between Noble and Coppock were destroyed with no trains since the storm. a 200 man week is forecast to restore rail service.

Landscape expert visits to aid city beautification effort
Fr A Cushing Smith, a landscape architect, arrives in Washington to assist Marsh W Bailey with his home grounds and consult with Park and Hospital Boards on a city wide beautification plan. Methodist Episcopal Conference Heads to Des Moines
The 33rd quadrennial general conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church will convene in Des Moines on May 1 1920 and run through May. About 828 delegates including ministers and lay members will attend from 134 annual conferences plus mission fields. The Iowa delegation includes Dr A S Smith and Dr John W Hancher with others, and Bishop Hushes has died. The gathering will consider unification with the Methodist Episcopal Church South and the centenary reports, with special lectures by Bishop Quayle and more.

Des Moines Firm Leases 7000 Acres for Coal Field
A large coal field northwest of Des Moines in Polk and Dallas counties has been prospected by the Maple Block Coal Company and will be developed. Coal measures range four to seven feet thick and extend over a wide area. About 7000 acres leased. shafts are being sunk. The field parallels Milwaukee and the M. & St. L. railroads.
