Hutchcroft named Davis County superintendent

Edward L. Hutchcroft, longtime school administrator in West Branch and former Washington Community School District assistant superintendent, is named superintendent of the Davis County Community School District based in Bloomfield. He will lead the district as its new chief from the current year. His prior roles included six years as assistant superintendent and four years as an elementary principal in West Branch. In Central Park tonight a 7:30 p.m. concert by the Washington High School Jazz Band serves as a preview for WMT-TV airings and funds for a Montreux Switzerland trip. The concert lasts under an hour.

Mezvinsky committee holds Washington County meeting at Elliott home

The Washington County Mezvinsky for Congress committee met at Rosemary Elliott's home to discuss local reaction to Patrick O'Connor guiding support for the First District Democratic nomination and planned county events Mezvinsky will attend. He plans to return to Washington County soon. A separate note from Montgomery reports a group named Save Our State circulating a petition urging Gov. Wallace to return home or resign.

Junior High Spring Concert Planned for Monday

The Washington Junior High music department presents its annual spring concert Monday April 24 at 7 30 p m in the junior high gymnasium. Vocalists include seventh eighth and ninth grade choruses and a girls triple trio led by Mrs Dean Stanley. Band A and Band B perform under Gary McCurdy with special pieces Beguine for Flute and the 500 Pound Polka. Stan Close directs the final number as a high school student teacher in the instrumental music department.

Iowa Weather Forecast Partly Cloudy With Storms Ending

United Press International reports Iowa will see partly cloudy skies with possible rain or thunderstorms southeast tonight. Friday will bring partly sunny conditions with lows from the upper 30s in the north to the mid 40s south and highs in the 50s to 60s.

In Belfast two 18 year old Roman Catholic women, Margaret Herron and Bernadette Scullion, were abducted at gunpoint and tarred and feathered in Coalisland as IRA gunmen carried out a revenge killing. The victims were hospitalized for shock. Police pursued leads.
