The McElwee family of Schaller is set to be well represented in the navy with Frederick McElwee enlisting as a shipfitter in the Seabees and his 17 year old son Oren joining the regular navy at the Des Moines recruiting station announced Monday.
District Judge Joseph E. Meyer of Polk county predicts Iowa will see more license business but fewer divorces due to Missouri’s new marriage law requiring a syphilis blood test and a three day waiting period after license issuance.
Des Moines reports that OPA plans limit gasoline for boats this summer. Boating clubs protest, arguing recreational craft do not impact rubber or transport shortages in Iowa. Maximums cited are 20 gallons for outboards and 125 gallons for inboards.
OTTUMWA The fourth class to graduate from the naval air station left Monday for Corpus Christi Texas for advanced flight training. With the graduation of this class the number of cadets completing primary training totals 28.

Ensign Loren L. To qualify a senior must be 17 and rank in the upper half of their class. graduates must finish high school before starting training.

Mrs. Ralph Gowey formerly Mae Bailey of Washington died yesterday in her Tucson home. Funeral and burial will be in Tucson. She is survived by her husband and several children, plus her mother Mrs. Bailey and siblings Katherine Mason City, Mrs A G Wilcox Davenport, Kenneth and Cle tus New York, Gerald Chicago, L G Davenport. Her father and two brothers John and Everett are deceased.
