Cache of morphine tablets found during house remodel
A cache of 900 morphine tablets and two hypodermic syringes was uncovered in the old Luce house during remodeling. The drugs, valued at about 200 dollars, and equipment were turned over to the federal narcotics bureau for destruction. Workmen found the cache in a niche between rafters in the second story study, a room damaged by fire.

Bonfire Victim Mary Scott Dies At 80
Mary Blanche Scott, 80, died of burns after her dress caught fire while tending a bonfire in her back yard. Neighbors aided her as flames spread in the breeze before she could move to Muscatine. Mrs. Clem Millard helped and notified her sister Mrs. Flora Townsend.

Townsend Pardoned Before Jail Time For Contempt
President Roosevelt granted an executive pardon to Dr. Francis Townsend, an elderly pioneer of old age pensions, just as he was to begin a 30 day jail term for contempt of the House. Townsend had surrendered to U S marshals and awaited transfer when the White House announced the clemency on Rep C Jasper Bell’s recommendation. Bonds Vote Set For Washington District School Building
Citizens will vote tomorrow at city hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on issuing bonds to build a new north town grade school replacing the aging facility. The first election produced 1,289 votes. this time turnout is expected to be higher. Sixty percent of votes are needed to carry the bond issue. In Feb the tally was 656 for, 637 against, with six spoiled ballots.

Death of Charley Derby of Rubio after long illness
Charlee Edwin Derby 64 died at his Rubio area home after a prolonged illness. He lived in the community fifteen years.
