Paris accolades honor Iowa native Paul B Anderson a University of Iowa graduate and nephew of Dean Emeritus Cap FE for establishing a technical school aiding Russian refugees. The recognition underscores cross border aid and academic ties between Iowa and France.
Cedar Rapids two year old Billy Evans drank two ounces of kerosene from a glass. He lay unconscious for five hours before doctors used a stomach pump. He was reported out of danger after treatment.
Dr. Frank Nagel aged 65 a noted musician and father of film actor Conrad Nagel died at his home after a long illness. He formerly served as dean of the college of music at Highland Park college Des Moines and moved west sixteen years ago.
Fort Dodge attorney John K. Mulroney was named deputy city solicitor as the council revised ordinances and considered economic efficiency. He proposed a stenographer directed by the city solicitor to handle workload reduction. Two Polk City sailors linked to coronation plans are mentioned.
Margaret Cunningham of Waterloo and Rudolph Bolte of Davenport won the senior law argument contest before the Iowa Supreme Court justices. Cunningham became the first woman to argue before the court on Supreme Court day at the university event in Iowa City.

New London students protest lack of seating in the new auditorium funded since January but still unused due to insufficient funds. Seniors organize a strike to press for commencement ceremonies to be held in the auditorium despite spectators lacking seats.
In Topeka Kansas three men in a car with New York plates eluded a government trap at the new post office. An FBI type agent W W Daker was shot through the back and seriously wounded. Bystander Co E Davis was shot in the foot as more than twenty shots were exchanged.

Ralph Scott announces a two week sidewalk test of the Argonne rug in front of Scott Furniture. The rug will endure foot traffic and wear tests while 101,620 passersby are expected. At the end, half the rug will be cleaned and the high bidder will claim it.

Sudden heart attack kills Mrs. Geo Reed at the family farm eight miles northeast of town as she prepared dinner. Funeral services set for Sunday at 3 PM at the Presbyterian church in Washington, with burial at Elm Grove cemetery. She leaves husband, three sons and a daughter, plus two brothers and nineteen nieces and nephews.

More than 200000 farmers in the drought zone who moved from WPA to the resettlement administration will not return to WPA work relief this spring. The policy aims to meet the Roosevelt administration’s 1.5 billion dollar FY budget and limit deficits under a 750.0 million dollar appropriation. WPA direct relief averaged 52 dollars monthly for drouth farmers. resettlement relief for farm families averaged 24 dollars monthly, saving 28 dollars per family. Seasonal relief declines have not appeared yet, despite Ohio and Mississippi floods keeping WPA rolls high.
Des Moines reports Iowa auto fatalities for 1937 up to 117 with two recent deaths in highway crashes. Elaine Maley 18 of New Sharon and Mrs Wayne Maupin of Kansas City were involved in separate wrecks as cars and a truck collided near Shenandoah and Montezuma. Maley died after the car she rode in veered while passing. Maupin died today in a hospital after injuries from a collision earlier in the week.

He is a nationally known speaker and friend of Rev W J Stevens pastor of the Foursquare church. Kellogg wears cowboy clothes at services and is praised for soul stirring sermons that are thrilling enlightening and logical.
Governor Kraschel named Charles J. Haas of Marion a Democrat to fill the late Judge A. B. Clark’s seat in the 18th judicial district Cedar Rapids. The appointment was announced in Des Moines today.
Roy J. Turnipseed 41 longtime Cedar township farmer died at Washington county hospital after a week long throat infection and complications. He lived on his birth farm near West Chester and was a West Chester church member. Surviving are his wife Faye Bauer and six children Edna Letha Marion Frances Daryl Erma, plus his mother, two brothers, and four sisters. Burial in Elm Grove cemetery after Sunday funeral at the West Chester Methodist church.
Mary Nickerson, injured in an automobile crash near Columbus Junction, had her right jaw fractured in two places set and wired at University Hospital Iowa City. An X ray showed a slight skull fracture. doctors will watch for infection, and she hopes to return home in a few days after knee wound evaluation.
The McCrory stores corporation used the Wagner act to file for a federal court injunction against picketing by three labor unions. Leonard Bjork of the NLRB said this is the first known use of the act to contest union activity. The petition claims 100 of 106 employees chose three representatives, requiring the company to deal with them under the act.
Stanley Seuferer, Des Moines truck driver for Meadows Transfer, posted bond late yesterday on highway traffic violation charges. His hearing is scheduled for April 29 after a collision incident in Ottumwa alleged by Ira McBethe, who says he signaled to pass but the truck turned into his car, forcing McBethe off the road. the driver says he did not hear the horn.

Floyd Beatty formerly of Washington now in southern California is under arrest on desertion charges filed by his former wife Virginia Beatty of Washington. The alleged desertion occurred in July 1934. The couple divorced and Beatty remarried. He waived preliminary hearing and an early district court hearing was expected.
