Ten high school senior classes plus faculty will attend as guests from West Chester Brighton Olds Ainsworth Waldon Cotter Crawfordsville and parts of Washington high school.
Des Moines April 15 The Iowa House voted 60 to 44 to defer action on a resolution calling for an investigation of Lieutenant Governor Arch W MacFarlane until a University of Iowa committee report is received A note by Rep Donlon of Palo Alto county warned that MacFarlane succeeding as governor would be a calamity.
Washington Y M C A volleyball team reached the final of the Fifth annual open tournament in Cedar Rapids and lost to Iowa City by a narrow margin after a long late night match. Traer finished third as six teams competed. Washington earned a runner up finish amid strenuous play with limited substitutions.
C. C. Reister spoke on Keg Gratling last evening at a gathering of twenty five Washington county produce dealers. The meeting, held monthly at city hall, is a branch of the Iowa State Poultry Feed and Butter association.
Roy G. Humston was brought to Sigourney by county officers to face Judge J. G. Patterson on illegal transportation of intoxicating liquor. He pled guilty and received a $600 fine plus costs and attorney fees. If unpaid, he may be confined in the county jail at $3.33 per day, about six months.
Workmen at the Wilson coal and ice yards install a new compressor, coils and motor for the ice storage plant. The system will hold temperatures below freezing, reduce past waste, and cost several thousand dollars, enabling better service to customers.

More additions are expected this week as coaches stress fundamentals for inexperienced aspirants who seek spots for next fall. The high school grid schedule for next season includes Oskaloosa Ottumwa Muscatine Winfield Burlington Fairfield Keokuk Mt. Pleasant and possibly Sigourney with one more game to be added.
Contracts for next year signed by all but three of the present teachers in Washington public schools. Irene Delong, Mrs. George Freshwaters, Wilda Mae Hutton, and Vertie Kennard did not renew. Superintendent Peet announced the board re-elected the majority. list of renewing staff spans high school to junior college and specialists.

Inhabitants remain panic-stricken while the ship stands by as a safeguard. the move aims to avoid past complications from foreign landings in Nicaragua.
Supt J H Peetaid says misperception exists about a state bill affecting junior colleges in towns over six thousand. The measure is not retroactive and does not stop Washington’s college already in operation. Senator Will Carden assured the bill, if enacted, won’t impact the local school. The Washington junior college nears a record year with strong demand and many high school seniors planning to enroll next year along with new students from nearby towns.
Brown of Wellman, aged eighty two, was in Washington today to obtain a fishing license, the oldest man in the county to do so. He has fished the English river for seventy two years and boasts a wealth of fish stories. W. W. Steiner of Wellman accompanied him.
A legislative committee reached unanimous agreement on a preliminary report concerning the University of Town. Senator Baird predicted a minority stance but no detailed outline of findings was released. The panel noted a likely compromise to yield a unified opinion and plans to present the draft to the legislature after adjournment. The committee also discussed a $28,000 claim from the state to be pursued from W J McChesney, former treasurer of the University of Iowa, tied to an interest waiver by the state board of education.
Mrs. R B Young has returned from Chicago where she spent the winter with her daughter Miss Louvisa Young in residence.
J. J. Traynor, who helped secure right of way in the county for the Continental Construction pipeline, returned from Illinois where he worked in Ottawa on similar duties. He will inspect construction in Washington and Keokuk counties and extend his territory to the Mississippi River while in Washington for several weeks. More crews are expected to come to Washington for the Oklahoma company contract, building the line in this part of Iowa.
Cedar county farmers reached a temporary compromise to resume spring work and submit cattle to testing by veterinarians of their choice. The meeting followed interest in making tuberculosis testing optional and had state officials withdrawn from the scene while Governor Turner’s influence was sought to back a Davis bill.
Mrs D M Bridges of Muscatine died at 6 30 PM Tuesday after a nine month illness. Funeral services set for 1 30 PM Thursday at Muscatine. Survived by husband D M Bridges and three daughters in Muscatine and Sioux City, plus two sons Arthur of San Francisco and Clarpiece of Grandview. Home listed as 105 East Tenth Street, Muscatine.
A two year old boy, Charlie B. Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Thomas, grew suddenly ill and was en route to a doctor in their car when a flat tire delayed them. Homer Blick, passing in the 1100 block of East Washington, rushed them to the hospital. The child, who had a severe cold, recovered satisfactorily by early afternoon and did not remain hospitalized. The Kansas family were traveling through to Minnesota to the parents’ home seeking work, after leaving Mt. Pleasant this morning with their three children.
Herbert Hanson aged 52 of Swetland Iowa died last night from acute alcoholism. He had worked for a Des Moines periodical publishing service bureau. J M Kelly Jerone Kelly James Casey and Ed Lukovsky were in Pleasant Plain last night.
Des Moines reports clocks in both Iowa houses halted before noon as the assembly exceeded its session limit. The House approved a drivers license bill with amendments by 79 to 15 and sent it back to the Senate for action. The bill would require licenses at registration and a 25 cent extra for non owners who drive, effective next January.

Plans start today at Washington junior college to assemble a track team led by Coach George Fresh waters. Candidates are being sought for a possible dual meet with Musctine junior college and an invited meet in May at Burlington. Prospective sprinters Bain and Ahrens, distance runner Turner, javelinist Korf, Wells in hurdles and high jump, plus Little Cline and Skola, are noted as potential core members.
