North Washington trash pick-up starts Monday
The city sanitation team will conduct an area wide pickup of trash cans and debris in the north part of Washington on Monday and Tuesday next week. Mayor Cloid Willits urged residents north of the railroad tracks to place trash in containers at the curb or alley. The city sponsors a spring clean-up to boost home appearance and the slogan Cleanest City in Iowa. No charge to property owners. Chamber of Commerce endorsed the drive and urged cooperation.

Three Iowa women robbed in Ft Dodge heist
Three women living together in Ft Dodge were robbed of more than 1000 dollars in cash and 1200 in jewelry by three well dressed men armed with .38 caliber revolvers. The suspects tied the women with bedsheets, and one woman was struck as she tried to escape.

One Woman Killed In Dike Iowa School Bus Collision
A gravel intersection crash near Dike Iowa killed an elderly woman and sent four youngsters and both drivers to the hospital. The bus carried 13 students from two families, with five from the Riker household and four from the Weber family. Driver Richard Woodley 28 and car driver John Busson 75 of St Paul Minnesota were hospitalized. the victim was Busson’s wife. Investigators cited a clump of trees that may have blocked vision at the no stop sign intersection three miles north of Dike.

Petersen plan advances to House calendar in Iowa aid bill
The Iowa House Tax Revision Committee approved the Petersen plan for distributing state school aid and sent it to the calendar by 41 votes to zero. The plan would tax counties to cover 40 percent of local school budgets, with the state refunding 40 percent of county income tax to add to property tax revenue, and aim for 85 percent of the state average expenditure per pupil with possible additional equalization aid. The committee also discussed altering the bill title and considering revenue measures, while another proposal, the Yoder Nielsen plan, advocated a direct 60 percent tax credit on residential and agricultural property taxes.
