Former High School To Be Razed This Summer
Washingtons old junior high school building will be razed this summer after the school board decided to tear it down. The site once housed high school pupils and later junior high students. now it houses some district administrative offices. The board rejected low bids for the building and lots, plans to remove the structure, then study selling the lots. Administrative offices will move to a duplex near the high school, purchased months ago. Also approved were buying a 42 passenger bus and staffing changes including resignations from Janet Venzke, Linda Faaborg, and Rita Boddicker, and hiring Mary Lou Manning as junior high English teacher. Superintendent Schlapkohl reported progress on staffing for next term. The board reviewed state department recommendations for home economics upgrades, North Central Association evaluation plans, Iowa Basic Skills test results, and the summer program. Carson Plumbing and Heating was authorized to replace the Brighton school boiler, and mileage rates for some personnel were increased from 7 to 10 cents per mile.
