The fifty-first Iowa general assembly wrapped on Friday the ninety-sixth day of the session. Lieut. Gov. Kenneth A. Evans in the senate and Speaker Harold Felton in the house tapped gavels to mark adjournment as doors stood open across the statehouse rotunda.
Shenandoah schools chief Dean McKee who led the juvenile delinquency expose has resigned effective July 1. His three year contract ends and he will join Tarkio College as a faculty member and public relations director, a Tarkio board member for 14 years announced.
Gene Bjorkland 6 and his brother Lowell 17 were badly burned when a fire destroyed the Bjorkland home in Emmetsburg. Mrs. Bjorkland was washing when a gasoline can toppled and ignited.
Oliver Clark of Waterloo is jailed on charges of cashing a government allotment check for 37 dollars belonging to Mrs Pearl Wortham. He failed to post a $2900 bond set by U S Commissioner Leo Leeper. His case is to be tried during the May term of the federal court.
Adel Hansen Jr and George Burns, both about 17, drowned when the boat they fished in with two older men capsized on the Racoon river near here Friday evening. Karl Curry and Wayne Jordan aboard could not explain the accident to Sheriff Upton. Hanson’s family moved here from Lake City, Ja. Burns boy lived north of town.
In a solemn joint session of Iowa's legislature 136 Republicans and 22 Democrats honored President Roosevelt. A memorial resolution was adopted as lawmakers stood in silence with the president's portrait draped behind the speaker. Gov. Blue mourned Roosevelt as a great friend of freedom and leadership.
George R. Brier and Lucille E Bratler, both of Brighton, obtain a court action or property matter in a local filing. The fragment indicates a joint filing or request by the two individuals in a Brighton context.
Nation at war observed a solemn funeral for Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington. The flag draped casket lay in the White House East Room as President Truman, Mrs. Roosevelt, and foreign representatives attended the service. Edgar praised the talent, with solos and various choirs, including West Chester and Brighton girls groups, delivering engaging numbers. A novelty piece Three Blind Mite in a Night Club impressed the audience and players who rehearsed briefly.
A marriage license was filed at the courthouse yesterday indicating a couple secured the necessary documentation to wed.
At least 111 people are dead after tornadoes hit Oklahoma Arkansas and Missouri Thursday night with totals possibly exceeding 129 if isolated areas confirm. Rescue squads search ruins across 14 affected areas for missing persons as officials tally deaths and damage.

A massive B 29 raid on Tokyo blasted a five square mile arsenal zone near the imperial palace with fires spreading to nearby facilities and the Omiya and Asaka palaces. Radio Tokyo claimed large losses while Allied forces pressed gains on Okinawa and approached Baguio in the Philippines.
Mrs. E. KK Ward will lead the clothing drive for Allied and liberated countries, with a different community group in charge each day Monday through Saturday. The collection center on South Iowa Avenue near Lemmon Drug Store will operate 9 AM to 5 PM daily, including a noon hour.
Zelather Taylor announced today that an orchestra of high school musicians will play for the dance show to be presented by his pupils at the State Theater on June 13, replacing the high school band as announced recently.
