The Quay conspiracy trial nears a plan to identify entries across more than 100 People's Bank books. Lawyers from both sides and Judge Biddle agree on a method to streamline testimony as the books are produced in court.
In Fond du Lac Wisconsin Robert Frenzel proprietor of a Oakfield flour mill and his mother in law Mrs A Kettler of Byron were killed when a Wisconsin Central train struck their carriage as they attempted to cross Military street Mrs Frenzel was seriously injured The collision destroyed the family car and left significant injuries to other riders The incident prompted medical aid and prompted a search for further details on the accident and relationships involved
Handwriting expert Dr. David Richardson testified that Charles Austin was mentally incompetent to testify and that the bank’s books included entries tying to Hopkins and Quay. Witnesses identified the so called red book as Hopkins’ writing, and minute entries discussed a $100,000 loan to Quay conditioned on state deposit increases. The court admitted the minutes and a New York handwriting expert corroborated similarity of Quay’s name in both books.
