A 17 year old Mary Jayne Jones was found shot to death in a farmhouse near Blakesburg. BCI says at least one suspect has taken a lie detector test and investigation continues. Jones had written a postmarked letter to friends in North Carolina mentioning a boyfriend. the boyfriend is not considered a suspect.

Iowa Fire Safety Warning From State Forester
DES MOINES UPI The Iowa Conservation Commission urged residents to be cautious with outdoor fires amid spring wildfire threat. State forester Gene Hertel noted over 90 percent of wildfires are man caused and debris burning is a major source. He advised fully extinguishing fires when leaving, avoiding windy days, placing campfires away from grass and trees, and never leaving a burning fire unattended.

About 5,000 pounds of canned goods collected by the Des Moines Jaycees will be flown to Xenia Ohio for tornado relief. The shipment coordinated with Dayton Jaycees will travel by Federal Express jet to Dayton then by truck to Xenia for Red Cross and Civil Defense distribution. Xenia, hit hard last week, saw about half of its 25,000 residents affected.

Three Iowans die in highway crash
A three vehicle crash on Iowa 99 seven miles north of Burlington killed Zella Brown 78 of Muscatine Dorothy Sutcliffe 46 rural Oakville and Donna Zippe 26 of Oakville. Zippe's infant daughter Gina was hospitalized with serious injuries. Both Zippe and Pfeiff were in critical condition. no charges filed.
