Feed Grain Deadline Set For Washington County Farmers
Washington County farmers must sign up for the 1962 Feed Grain and Wheat Stabilization programs by Monday April 16. ASCS manager William Day reports 840 farmers have signed intentions, totaling about 28 000 diverted acres, with more possibly joining before the deadline. Base acreage stands at 72 000 acres and corn allotment roughly 44 000 acres. The county ASCS office will be open 8 AM to 5 PM Monday.

L. E. Allender a 48 year old Crawfordsville man died suddenly this morning of a heart attack while fishing with friend Charles Prottsman in Crooked Creek on the John Turner farm south of Washington. Funeral arrangements are undetermined with Jones Funeral Home of Washington in charge. He was born August 3, 1913 in Henry County and married Mary A. Schirmer July 4 1941 in Kahoka Missouri. He worked 30 years for the Burlington Railroad as a section foreman before health failed. Survivors include his widow five children his father a sister two brothers and four grandchildren.
