An unidentified man was found semi conscious along Highway 3 east of Shenandoah with a rope around his neck. Officers are investigating the incident and seeking details about the assailant or motive.
A 2300-pound safe was ripped from Hartigan farm implement plant by a penitroglycerine explosion and lowered from a third story window. It was later found near the city limits. Hartigan did not know the amount stolen.
Tiny patient born at Miners Hospital weighed between 10 and 12 ounces and spent a day in incubator. By now the baby named Atom Baby weighs over 20 ounces. A fund to cover hospital costs has reached 1190 dollars.

The Y organizes special events for boy members during spring vacation. High school boys have a 1 to 2 30 pm gym period daily and may swim when classes are not scheduled. Junior boys run a Wednesday and Thursday 2 20 pm basketball tournament and may form teams for the meet. Swimming is set for Monday Wednesday Thursday and Saturday at 10 am, while Gray boys enjoy a 9 00 am swim on those days. Two hiking trips are planned for Tuesday for Grey boys and juniors.
Federal agricultural data place Iowa winter wheat at 16,318,000 bushels with 13 percent good, against 8,800,000 last year. Iowa corn stocks total 45,700,000 bushels. oats on hand 65,162,000 and rye, potatoes, and peaches show varied normal levels. Genevieve Grove of Davenport was arrested by Sheriff Harold M. Putnam on a complaint by County Superintendent Lester B. Krabill. She was found guilty by Justice J. E. Bovee of disturbing schools during sessions and sentenced to 30 days, suspended on condition she leave Washington county and stay away. She indicated a preference for other counties. The charge claimed she pressed for pupil subscriptions during school hours.
Washington public schools will be closed all next week for their annual spring vacation according to Supt. FE A. Ralston. Many teachers will return home and others plan out-of-town visits. There were no high school sessions yesterday due to the district music contest.

Mrs. Joe Kaufman of Wayland died at home, age 61, after illness. Funeral services set for Sugar Creek church tomorrow at 2 p.m. Interment in adjoining cemetery. she was born January 4, 1883 in Ohio and lived in Wayland since age four. Survived by husband, two children Leona and Clarence, mother Mrs. Jacob Beese, three sisters, two brothers.
