Tax Reduction Bill Passes Senate With Changes
The Elliott bill mandating a five percent tax reduction by townships, schools, cities, towns and counties for 1931 and 1932 passed the Senate 29 to 18 after House approval. Amendments allow overrides by budget director, exempt some school districts, and bar mandatory levies from certain bond retirement. The measure goes back to the House for concurrence.

Funeral services for J. M. Stone, who died yesterday after noon from pneumonia at age 80, will be held Saturday at two o'clock in Ainsworth. Rev. J. H. Krenmyre will conduct at the United Brethren church with burial in Ainsworth cemetery. Stone was a longtime leader in Washington County Farmers Mutual Insurance and an active church member. He leaves a widow Louise G. McPherson, two sons Victor and Ted, four daughters Grace, Mrs. T. C. Davis, Mrs. W. W. Glaze, and Mrs. H. J. Morris, plus four grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers J. W. Stone and Sam R. Stone. His death ends a prominent career in local civic life.
