Washington high school students earned 13 Division I ratings at the Sigourney pre state contest, bringing total Division I ratings to 21 across instrumental solos ensembles and vocal groups. Next contest at Grinnell April 27 28 features 32 student delegates. Mel Hill accompanied the group and teachers praised the effort.

Three Hurt in North Washington Highway Collision
Three persons sustained minor injuries in a Sunday morning crash five miles north of Washington on Highway One at 10 50. Cars driven by Melvin Dean Snyder and Dean Genkinger collided after failing to see each other. Snyder had a knee injury and facial cuts. Des Moines reports two Washington students, Donald Johnson and Janis Melarland, won district prizes in the Iowa Safety Congress poster contest.
