Mrs H F Samson and daughters hosted a two to six reception for Miss France Graham of Monmouth Illinois with two hundred forty five invitations. Music from the Jolly Five orchestra, elegant white and yellow decor, and candid sociability highlighted the day. Out of town guests included Mrs McIntire Hastings Neb Mrs Lamphere Davenport Miss Etta Samson Wyman and Mrs David Kilgore West Chester. A later note records a 79th birthday reunion for the Wm L Essley family, with gatherings, photographs, and plans for future visits. Postmaster Wallace in Glenwood is upgraded to third class with a four year term and expanded allowances.
William Oldfield, a resident eight miles southeast of Wellman, was thrown from a team pulling a stalk cutter. His leg was severely injured and doctors amputated it. The town notes also record a district WCTU conference near Muscatine, band benefit tickets, a progressive checker party, Ramseyer musicians in town, and a jeweler advertising a gold filled watch.
William Shafer and Stella McChrystal wed last evening at the east of Dono van home in a small ceremony with only relatives present. The bride, long a head waitress at Hotel Allen, and the groom, proprietor of Hotel Allen billiard parlors, are praised by The Journal for their admired character.
