Local schools close for Faster holiday and open house set

The brief notes area schools will take a day or two off this weekend for the Faster holiday with Good Friday April 9 as a holiday in most districts. Waco Community Schools observe Friday and Monday April 12 as holidays while Mid Prairie Washington and Highland hold a single day off on April 9. Kirkwood Community College hosts its annual spring open house on Sunday April 25 with departmental displays entertainment and program information.

Postmaster of the Year elected in Iowa meeting

James Miller of the Plainfield Postmaster was chosen Iowa Postmaster of the Year by members of the Iowa branch of the National League of Postmasters during a three day meeting in Clear Lake. John Meyer of Kalmar was reelected president of the organization.

Union Good Friday Service at United Presbyterian Church

Suspects posted bonds in Arco chemical theft case

Two men from Muscatine and Blue Grass were arrested in Washington County on a theft of more than 17000 dollars in farm chemicals from an Arco chemical plant near Hedrick Fremont. They posted 15000 dollar cash bonds and were released. Authorities continued their probe with burglary tools found during a car search.

Pony Express riders plan Washington stop Saturday event
