Iowa river cities tour estimates flood damages at 10 million
Iowa National Guard officials and state lawmakers toured five river towns by helicopter bus and plane as Col Howard Coffman of the U S Army Corps of Engineers estimated this year’s Mississippi flood would cause about 10 million dollars in damage. He noted 1965 floods caused around 50 million in his district and 1952 about 8 5 million. The crest was due to reach Guttenberg next Tuesday and Dubuque Clinton and the Quad Cities in sequence with Guttenberg already above the 15 foot stage. The delegation included Adj Gen Junior Miller and nine legislators who visited sandbagging and dike works and pressed for funds to aid communities facing flood costs.

Korean plane crashes into church in Seoul slum area
A South Korean air force C46 transport plane suffered engine trouble and crashed into a near empty church and surrounding tinderbox huts in Chung Ku Bong district. At least 50 people were killed with fears the toll could rise to over 100. The crash near a crowded high school caused a two and a half hour fire that destroyed more than 100 huts as rescuers battled the blaze through heavy rain.
