Israel Syria clash erupts as air war rages near Sea of Galilee

Israeli air force jets bombed Syrian positions for hours along the southeastern shore of the Sea of Galilee in a major border clash alongside tanks mortars and artillery. Both sides claimed air victories with Mirage and MIG21 aircraft. One Israeli soldier was killed and another wounded amid ongoing fighting near Ein Gev and Kibbutz Ha'on.

Powell appeal planned after court dismisses suit

UPI reports federal Judge George L. Hart Jr. ruled the courts cannot review the House ouster of Adam Clayton Powell. Powell’s lawyers said they will appeal to the Circuit Court of Appeals, arguing the Harlem preacher-politician was barred from his seat March 1 over payroll and travel privilege abuses and conduct unbecoming of a congressman.

Baker appeals prison sentence for seven counts

Former Senate aide Robert G. Baker was sentenced to one to three years in prison on seven counts of larceny income tax evasion and fraud to be served concurrently. His attorneys announced an immediate appeal.

Three bodies found in plane wreckage

In Greencastle Indiana the bodies of David Frieders Berline Frieders and their 5 year old daughter Christine were found in a plane wreckage almost three weeks after they were reported missing. They were en route from Crossville Tennessee to Fort Pierce Florida to visit relatives when they vanished after requesting weather information the morning of March 16. Identification was confirmed by the plane s ID number and papers found near the scene.

Pathologist details eight nurse deaths in Speck case

Peoria Ill. UPI reports coroner's pathologist Dr Eugene Tapia described autopsies on the eight Chicago nurses killed in their dormitory apartment. He said all were killed by strangling or stabbing with deep stab wounds in at least one victim. Miss Corazon Amurao, sole survivor, testified about the intruder's description and the ongoing trial of Richard Speck.

Washington County Fair 1967 Entertainment Schedule

The Fair board approved a contract to bring Grand Ole Opry performers for the opening night Monday August 24 at the Washington County Fair. The group will perform during a North Dakota State Fair run and then on to the Kansas Fair. Tuesday features the annual Miss Washington County beauty pageant produced by the Washington Jaycees. Wednesday highlights the Parade of Champions and 4 H livestock exhibits. Thursday night hosts the traditional horse show and afternoon tractor pull with four classes. Season tickets cost $3, covering all entertainment and daytime fair activities.
