Funeral services are set in Chicago for Edward J. Kehoe 53 brother of Washington attorney J. J. Kehoe who died of a cerebral hemorrhage. He is survived by his wife and four children with L. J. Kehoe to attend.
Fred Hermann, a skilled metal worker and carpenter, runs a modern shop on his 60 acre farm one hall tile north of Lavine bake school. He, his wife and daughter Dorothy, along with sons Ambrose and Hernard, contribute to farm tasks and local repairs, often helping neighbors without pay. Hernard works at Washington based Henign implement firm. Ambrose at Buick garage in Musecatine.
The YMCA lobby filled for the second of five Holy Week services held each morning from S to 8 50 with Rev Walter Smith delivering today. The third service Wednesday will feature Rev Charles King of Nazarene Church, with Doug Furr directing and Mrs. Paul Thayer on piano as a women’s group provides music, all to end each morning in June to suit workers.
The Missouri River flood threatens power plants in Pierre and St. Pierre as emergency dikes and pumps are set. Sioux Falls evacuates 1,400 residents while the Red River forecast targets higher crests than 1942 and 1945.
Dr Cyrus Ko Pangborn of the State University of Iowa School of Religion will speak at this year’s Easter sunrise service sponsored by the YMCA Y’s Men’s Club. The service begins at 7 am Sunday morning April 1 with a choir directed by Robert Ekeurtl and decorations by Ben Blossom as general chairman.
Mrs Mary Maxwell 79 lifelong Conseville resident died in her sleep. Born August 15 1872 to John and Roseanna Snyder in Conesville. Her husband Robert Maxwell preceded her. Survived by son Forrest Maxwell daughter Berda Westlake Nichols four grandchildren three great grandchildren three sisters and a brother. Body at Stacey funeral home awaiting arrangements.
Monmouth college students present The Bandmaster a musical comedy at the Washington high school auditorium tonight Tickets on sale at the door. Community Forum closes season with this performance. Jim Pease a Washington announce for KXIC since February 25 started a new program Spinder Sanctum Monday and handles other KXIC broadcasts.
Federal mediation moves considered as six day old walkout by Western Union telegraphers shows little progress. Mandelbaum and Wilcox report the company unchanged in stance while the walkout aims for a 16 cent raise and a 10 hour week with current wages averaging $1.52 to $1.65 an hour.
Brighton city council welcomes two new members Drish and Dr. Noel Carter during a regular meeting. Incumbents Omar Hoskins Chris Mann and Walter Ruggles remain, with Rich ard Hudson starting a second mayoral term. Lawrence Hunter named city marshal water superintendent succeeding Fr Hagans. Earl Hopkins reappointed street commissioner with L R Zelinsky re-elected city clerk FE Edmondson city solicitor.
Rev Cummings and Mrs Cummings instructors at Central Bible Institute Springtera Missouri will headline Christian tabernacle events Friday through Sunday. They recently returned from India where he served with the assemblies of God as field secretary. He will perform on violin in Indian costume and speak at a missionary rally Friday at 7:30 p.m. and at Saturday and Sunday services. The public is invited.
Washington Junior Chamber members and hundreds of county children prepare for the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Sunset Park. The park opens at 10 a.m. with three age groups and prizes for found eggs. Nearly 7 000 eggs have been packed by Washington Jaycees and Boy Scouts will patrol. Mothers are not allowed to participate. younger children will be assisted by JCC wives.
Jack Thorne, formerly of Cenar Rapids, joins Farrell's Office Supply in Washington as salesman and serviceman of office appliances. His wife and daughter remain in Cenar Rapids until year’s end. Thorne's brother George will arrive from Corinth, Mississippi later this month to join the business, and both brothers have long worked in this field. The Thornes are members of the Christian Church.
Mrs Bartow of Washington named a third prize winner in a national Jello makers contest. Her prize is a wrist watch. She also previously won a Caribbean trip, a Laundromat, and a coffee grinder in local U Save Grocery sponsored contests.
Washington County PMA official warns farmers to inspect stored corn in cribs and bins for moisture. He says packed ears block air, risking spoiled feed, and notes county office loans ear corn probes to sample central crib corn for condition assessment.

Wage chief Nathan P. Feinsinger met with six major steel firms and voiced cautious optimism that a last minute settlement could be reached. President Truman summoned Charles Sawyer to Washington as industry seizure plans circulated, while unions demand the wage board package raising pay by about 2.64 cents per hour by January 1.
The annual Washington County Hobby Show will be held at the Washington YMCA on May 1 2 and 3 with Bob Logan as general chairman. Participating groups include schools YWCA Came Fire Girls Blue Birds Rotary Kiwanis Y's Men Mary Buren Chamber of Commerce Junior Chamber of Commerce Boy Scouts and the YMCA.
Good Friday will be observed with a three hour service from noon to 5 p m at the United Presbyterian church. The Washington ministerial association sponsors the event and the service is open to the public. Washington merchants will close stores from 12 to 2 p m in response to the ministerial association request.
