Thirty young men and women from Washington junior college, chaperoned by Dean and Mrs. Harland Mead, returned home after a two day educational trip in Chicago. They visited institutions and industries with strong support from the Milwaukee railroad and Stevens hotel, and shared the journey with a Wheatland junior college group and the Parsons College choir. The group photo at the University of Chicago chapel lists their members.

Ottumwa report states James K R Cohenour 34 former factory worker died at home in an apparent self inflicted incident. Coroner Gordon Traui of Wapelio County said Cohenour was found in the bathtub as a death by own action and his wife survives.

Musician Otto Thoensen Dies After Smoke Incident
Otto Thoensen 74 a longtime Dutch Creek golf course caretaker and former Strausser band member died after reentering his smoke filled bedroom. The Davenport area man had served at the course for 12 years before his death.

Washington entered 2 events in the pre state music contest with 17 division one and 2 division two ratings. Two Injured in West Washington Car Collision
A head on collision occurred Saturday night about eleven o'clock four miles west of Washington on road No. 92. Orville Hradek of Wellman had stopped on the shoulder with a flat tire when Milo Patterson backed into the parked car. Patterson and Dale Ayres sustained bruises while both vehicles suffered heavy damage.

Folk World Festivals Planned by Stewart and Lincoln Schools
Pupils from Stewart and Lincoln schools prepare two folk festivals titled Around the World in Song and Dance. Lincoln's event Friday April 12 and Stewart's Monday April 15 start at 7 30 pm at the new schools. Fire destroys Stout Farm home near Crawfordsville
The Stout farm home two and a half miles southwest of Crawfordsville burned Saturday evening. A gasoline lantern exploded during car fueling as neighbors saved most household goods. The shed and chicken house were lost, but nearly all chickens were saved. The fire spread quickly aided by wind and the home owner Anos Stout owns the Will Hawthorne place nine miles southwest of Washington.

Three German Vessels Sunk in Skagerrak Action

Mother of Mrs Robt Reaney Dies in Illinois
Mrs Elizabeth Kranz mother of Mr Robert Reaney died at her daughter Mrs Rage mond Goode’s home in Reynolds Illinois after a stroke last week. She was eighty, had lived in Illinois all her life, and was survived by daughters and a son. Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran church in North Bussola Prairie, with family members planning to move to Lake City after visiting friends and relatives. Company K veterans who served on the Mexican border in 1916 and in World War I plan an April 21 reunion in the V.F.W. hall at Fort Madison. The last January meeting was canceled due to a blizzard.
