Waterloo men arrested in bootlegging raid outside Bob's Café
Waterloo residents Thomas Huckins, 49, and Earl Tornedo, 22, were jailed on bootlegging charges after police seized 23 pints of state liquor outside Bob's Café. Police Chief Crumline said Huckins had three bottles on him while the rest were in his car. Tornedo allegedly directed liquor buyers to Huckins.

Burns Fatal to Riverside Man Dies at Mercy Hospital Iowa City
J Alphonse Muller 78 died Sunday evening at Mercy hospital in Iowa City after his clothing ignited while tending a bonfire at his Riverside home. Funeral services set for Tuesday at Mt Narys church Riverside with burial in Mt Olivet. Muller born Jan 3 1863 in Alsace Lorraine came to America in 1885 and lived in Iowa near Riverside. He married Emma Simon Muller Aug 2 1892 at St Marys Riverside. He and his sons William and Edward ran a grocery and later barbering business.

County Farmers Mull 1941 Farm Program Plan
About 380 Washington corn farmers and ASA chairmen gathered at court house Saturday to debate the 1942 federal farm program. County Chairman Carl Oldfield led the conference and presented recommendations to Guy W. Smith of the Iowa Agricultural Conservation committee. Proposals include higher soil depletion allotments, lower expenses in performance determinations, maintained corn loans, and higher parity payments, with a plan to raise all allotments by a set percentage if emergency production is needed.

Mrs George Herzog Dies in Noble Community
Mrs. George Herzog died at her Noble area home after living in the community for years. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at 2 PM at the Eicher church in Noble with Rev. Welty and Simon Gingerich officiating. Burial will be in Eicher cemetery. She was born February 19 1863 in Basil Switzerland and married George Herzog there before emigrating to America with their infant daughter Margaret. Surviving are her husband daughter six grandchildren several great grandchildren and a brother Daniel Schantz northeast of Noble.
