Thomas Hamilton, 44, a Estherville salesman, remained in a critical condition after an infection developed from a small cut on his skin from moving a radio at home. He has been unconscious since Sunday.
W. J. Suckow 77, father of novelist Ruth Suckow, will be buried today at Greenwood cemetery Cedar Falls. He died in Alden where he had served as pastor of the Congregational church for ten years.
Within a month Nola Jane Hughes a months old will return to Handi hospital for her glass eyes. She is recuperating from a glioma operation in which both eyes were removed. The child was taken to the home of her parent Mr and Mrs M Lt Hughes at Shambaugh a few days ago.
In Clay county Garfield district residents approved merging with Webb by 91 to 58. Webb voters followed with 75 to 3 yes votes. Webb facilities will be used and the consolidation is expected to save about 6600 dollars annually.
Noble Joseph King at 21 pleaded guilty before Judge Charles A. Dewey to stealing a WPA check from a mailbox. He received six months in jail. King had been named in an indictment retried by The Drama Viry.
Mrs. Ethel Saunders testified in a district court that her husband, Rev. Claude D. Saunders, threatened to cut her throat and heart out. The Auburn Presbyterian pastor, 55, is on trial for assault with intent to murder over an alleged Feb. 22 parsonage attack. He has been jailed since a $6,000 bond was set. the Saunders family remains in the parsonage.
Damages of 7000 were awarded Mrs. Anna Smith guardian of Regina Smith of Marshalltown against the Clear View sanitarium of Davenport by a Scott county district court jury. The plaintiff claimed her daughter Regina was burned as a patient in early 1937 due to negligence and sought 40000 dollars in damages.
The R. C. Risk Construction Company of Washington plans to begin work on Cemetery Road by early next week, resuming after winter stoppage. Grading remains light and paving concrete may follow soon, with completion possible ahead of Memorial Day, prompting hopes for a Wash commemorative celebration.

Edith Nebe Bereman former Sioux City high school teacher died last Saturday. Her will filed for probate leaves a $300 loan fund to the school to aid needy pupils. She was buried at Glenwood.
A suit by Ida King of Wellman against William Livezey of Weilman and Oakey and Margaret Schubert of Iowa City over injuries from a Johnson county automobile crash ended when the court sustained a motion to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction after Livezey was eliminated as a defendant. The accident involved the Livezey bus and the Schubert car. The case may be refiled in Iowa City. The grand jury resumed work after a brief recess.
Jordan was re appointed to head of the Washington water and light plant by the fire water and light committee. The group also re appointed John Lowash Ed Wiley and Will Clark to their current posts and planned a new North Avenue D water main with a hydrant for enhanced fire protection along with minor plant machinery improvements.
The county hospital expands from a basic bed service to a full laboratory program. It now conducts over 6000 examinations yearly across about 60 types, aiding public health and dairy water testing while studying diseases to improve patient care.
Secretary of State Cordell Hull said Japan has accumulated large supplies of American material in Manchukuo for use in its undeclared war with China and possible future operations. Bernard Baruch warned against using economic penalties against aggressor nations, saying they could lead to war.
Missouri River floods recede at Omaha with a crest of 19.4 feet last night and 19.1 feet today. Nebraska City and Falls City regions face trouble while about 1000 acres of low lands near Rule, Nebraska lie inundated. Plattsmouth and Bartlett Iowa areas also report flooding conditions.
Senator Clyde L. Herring recommended the reappointment of Mack C. Deane as postmaster at Washington. DeLong’s term expires in two or three months, and he would need to pass a civil service exam to gain permanent status. If approved, DeLong will take an exam shortly before term expiration.
Rev. Arthur Atack preached on The Precious Faith at the United Presbyterian union service. Churches host own services tonight with communion in Baptist Methodist and Christian congregations. Candlelight planned by Methodist and Baptist, Christian to present The Answer of the Cross pageant. Four-square revival led by Kenneth Erickson continues. Union service slated for Friday at two o'clock in United Presbyterian.
Walter C Taylor, longtime American secretary of the Y M C A in Mexico City, spoke to the Washington Y's Men's club about Mexico. He described Mexican honor as central to national character and explained land tenure issues fueling the land revolution. The meeting also covered the club's upcoming Big Broadcast show.
Rev. Vernon Carter will lead devotions at the United Presbyterian church. Rev. Carl Klein will deliver the sermon titled The Message of the Cross for Today. Friday evening the church choir will perform The Seven Last Words of Christ by Dubois.
The Washington board of education voted to refund 15 000 dollars of school bonds at a lower interest rate 2.5 percent with a 55 dollar premium paid by the White Phillips company Davenport. Fifty thousand dollars of bonds issued for the high school building came due this year. 35 000 will be paid and 15 900 is refunded at the reduced rate. Election of teachers for next year postponed. Francis Allbaugh against Charles and David Agsh reached a settlement this week after a prior judgment in the Washington district court and a supreme court remand for a new trial. The insurer paid a substantial sum for injuries from an automobile accident. Dunham Morrison represented the plaintiff and 8 W Livingston, along with Gibson, Garrett & Gibson, appeared for other parties.
DES MOINES April 6 The Iowa House defeated a bill to appropriate 1.3 million dollars for a state office building on the capital grounds by a 36 to 65 vote. Governor Wilson supported the measure, but opponents warned of higher property taxes. The House also passed a bill allowing sale of surplus state property, including unused autos, and considered a gasoline alcohol mandate to aid corn farmers. Senate actions included a 17 to 80 defeat of a banking department budget bill and a 40 to 0 approval to fund 170 thousand dollars to match federal Bang’s disease efforts, while defeating a proposal to add the attorney general to the parole board.
Washington county is certified as practically free from cattle tuberculosis by the Bureau of Animal Industry. Retests will be done with results announced by October 1, 1940. The Agriculture Department seeks 11 million dollars for Bangs disease work starting July 1, 1939 to gather exact status data.
Harvey Iseminger 59 of Polk City died from injuries after his clothing became entangled in a tractor at the Reid farm near Polk City. He was dragged by the tractor during work on the farm.
