Earthquake Hits Central Illinois Felt Across Midwest
A moderate earthquake centered in southeastern Illinois rattled eastern Iowa with tremors reported in Davenport Clinton Fort Madison Keokuk Dubuque and Burlington. No damage was reported. The quake between Mattoon and Olney measured 4.5 to 5.0 on the Richter scale and was felt from Chicago to Nashville and from Columbus to St. Louis.

Five Washington County youths safe after Xenia tornado
Five youths from Washington County reported safe after a devastating tornado hit Xenia Ohio on Wednesday afternoon. Cedarville College students Carolyn and Darla Goodlander and Norman Luers, Rita Jones of Wellman, and Janet Ray of Washington escaped harm though Xenia suffered extensive damage and deaths. Janet Ray, en route from Cincinnati to Antioch College, sheltered in a restaurant basement during the storm and later told her parents of the town’s damage.
