Derailed Milwaukee Freight Train No 64 Near Washington

Freight train No. 64 bound for Savanna Illinois derailed in Washington Wednesday after 3 30 p m a hot journal box caused a dropped car. Five cars derailed eight from the end of an 83 car unit with four box cars and a tank car three empty two loaded. Crews cleared the track by 4 30 a m reopening North 2nd and North Iowa streets after using a track mounted crane to move cars and re lay 200 feet of track.

Mexican mine disaster widens search for survivors

In Barroterrán Coahuila Mexico recovery teams battled gas and possible cave ins as 122 miners remained missing after an explosion at the Alots Hornes coal mine. Iowa Weather: Cloudy with scattered rain odds this week

United Press International reports mostly cloudy conditions in Iowa with a chance of occasional rain tonight and Friday. Lows range from the 30s in the north to the 40s in the south, with Friday highs from the 50s in the northwest to the 60s to 65 in the southeast.

Central City voters reject millage hike for school bonds

CENTRAL CITY IOWA UPI reports an election on February 26 authorized the Central City School District to issue 660000 in bonds but a printer error left out the millage needed to repay the debt. On Wednesday voters refused permission to raise the millage.
