At Spanish Lake a Burlington passenger train rear collided with a slower freight. Rev. R C Allen amputated A J McKittrick's left leg with a dull knife on scene, under orders from the injured man. Nurse Mrs Emma Renouer used her veil as a tourniquet while whisky and opiates were given. McKittrick survived the emergency and was later moved to a hospital in St. Louis. Other injured include R T L Redford, Chas MacKesson, Samuel Weiser and J A Dunn.
