Keota Men Narrowly Escape After Sewer Ditch Caves In
Two Keota men Mike Greiner and Bill Cady were working on a sewer connection when a 12 to 14 foot ditch collapsed. Cady jumped in to aid Greiner, burying Greiner briefly under dirt while Cady nearly shared the fate. Lynn Wagamont dragged the men to safety as Keota fire department responders arrived. Greiner regained consciousness with no lasting injuries. The house involved was recently purchased by Cady, formerly the George Greiner place.

Two Charles City Women Injured In Highway Crash
Amy Eloise Koeneke and Arzella M. Klimesh of Charles City were injured when their 1961 car went off the road near the junction of highways 218 and 92 north of Ainsworth while a semi truck crowded them from the opposite direction. Iowa to seek emergency funds to rebuild Sioux City bridge
Gov. Norman A. Erbe said Iowa will request federal disaster aid from the Bureau of Public Roads to repair the two damaged bridges on primary highways and to reconstruct the 556 foot Interstate 29 span washed out by the Big Sioux River at Sioux City. Engineers will inspect the site and divers will check underwater sections to determine the collapse cause. The bridge, completed in 1958, cost nearly $200,000 with a 90 percent federal share.
