Iowa column reports pilot shot during midair demonstration

Kenneth Clark pilot and instructor for Eno Airways was shot in the leg Sunday afternoon while demonstrating a plane at 1000 feet over Dodger Stadium near Fort Dodge. The bullet from the ground pierced the aircraft and wounded Clark as he returned to the field for treatment at a Fort Dodge hospital. Police investigated reports of boys firing a rifle near the stadium.

Iowa licenses go on sale at county offices and stores

The Des Moines Iowa hunting and fishing licenses of 1045 go on sale today at county recorder offices and authorized stores. The state conservation commission reports 400000 licenses distributed with about 25000 in Polk County. Fishing licenses sell for 1 dollar, hunting licenses for 1 dollar, and hunting fishing licenses for 1 dollar fifty.

U. S. Forces Advance on Okinawa Amid Heavy Fighting

Moline Navy Ensign Killed In Training Plane Crash

Ensign Robert Ferguson 21 of Hiteman Iowa died when the navy plane he piloted crashed in a corn field beside the Moline airport during a training flight on Sunday. He had visited relatives earlier that day, went to his sister’s home in West Moline, then returned to the field. Officials believe engine trouble forced him to attempt a return to the field.

Beaver Garage Owner Killed in Highway Crash

Roy Sparks 40 a Beaver garage owner was killed when his car plunged from Highway 30 and overturned on a curve near the Des Moines river bridge between Oxden and Boone. His body was found under the car as he was en route from Beaver to Boone. He leaves a daughter parents a brother and a sister.

Byrnes Resigns as War Mobilization Chief in 1945

Justice James Byrnes resigns today as director of the Office of War Mobilization and Reconversion. President Roosevelt accepts the resignation with heartfelt regret and names Fred M. Vinson to succeed Byrnes. Vinson was previously director of economic stabilization and had headed the Federal Loan Agency.

Dr. Arthur Atack Dies in Aberdeen South Dakota

The Rev Dr Arthur Atack longtime Methodist pastor in Washington Iowa and local area died Thursday in Aberdeen South Dakota while serving a Free Methodist congregation. Burial is set for Iowa City and a memorial service was held in Washington with tributes from the Easter congregation. He leaves a wife a daughter and a son who serves in the military. he previously led churches in Indianola Perry and Washington before his South Dakota pastorate.

Kaster to Head April Clothing Drive for Destitute

Washington County war salvage chairman Earle F. Libe announced S. W. Kaster will direct the April clothing drive for destitute people in liberated Europe and the Philippines. Dan A.
