Primghar The Primehar board of education voted to reelect all teachers and boost salaries by 3 percent. Superintendent G T Wellson was included in the raise.
Estherville reports Ringsted farmer Estherville Adolph Meyer was kicked in the face by a cow during milking. His left eye suffered severe injury and doctors removed the eye. The event occurred at the farm as the animal attacked during milking.
Waterloo police investigate series of school burglaries with East High missing between 150 and 200 dollars from the principal’s office and West High robbed of 25 dollars on Monday night.
Jack Curtis reports an ewe on the Parizelli farm north of Lone Tree delivered quintuplets. One lamb died soon after, but four others are thriving.
Towa City-Carl S Cone and Flizgabeth Irish were named life members of the Iowa City chamber of commerce at a luncheon. The board credited their long and faithful service to the community.

Des Moines Iowa drivers arrested for drunken driving will see licenses suspended 30 days even if charges are dropped. Acting motor vehicle commissioner Horace Tate stated the department will target the practice of allowing pleas to careless and reckless driving in exchange for dropping the more serious charge.
Riverside April 2 George Cole 73 died at his home southeast of Riverside after years of poor health. Funeral services are set for 2:30 Monday at the home and Riverside Methodist church with burial in Riverside cemetery. He was born near Riverside to Joseph and wife and lived all his life in the area. He married Wille Hayes about six years ago and is survived by his wife, a stepson, two small children, and a brother William Cole. A brother Thomas died years ago. Cole was a prosperous farmer and, with William, owned several hundred acres southeast of Riverside.
Wilbert Rose of Crawfordsville announces his candidacy for the county board of supervisors for the term beginning January 1, 1940. He is a lifelong farmer living two miles northeast of Crawfordsville and will seek the Democratic nomination at the June primary.
Vatican City reports a formal retraction of its prior criticism of Germany on the radio. INS sources say secret negotiations are underway between Berlin and the Holy See, with Hitler anger over Vatican intervention and plans for a potential Austria address.
Miss Ethel and Miss Maude Mc Creedy announce the death of their uncle Harry McCulley after brief illness. He long served as a Washington barber before becoming Colorado State University grounds superintendent in Boulder. Funeral Monday in Boulder. Survived by wife and son Marion a Denver South High faculty member, plus a brother Will McCulley of Tingley Iowa and a sister Mrs Elmer Wright of Arkansas City Kansas.

Dr. Herbert Lockyer of Liverpool England will hold a Bible conference at Washington Presbyterian Church from April 20 to 26 with two sermons on Sunday April 24. Pastor Dr F W Eastwood praises him as a remarkable Bible expounder. Lockyer, on Moody Bible Institute extension staff in Chicago, is a noted British conference speaker on four U S trips.
Loyalist forces battled insurgents around Lerida as the Spanish Civil War neared a decisive stage. Madrid reported losses then recaptured positions and claimed recent loyalist gains, while a Guadalajara push was said to see continuing success despite insurgent claims of heavy loyalist casualties.

Des Moines reports a heavy frost warning for Iowa with sub freezing temps across the state last night. Temperatures ran about 10 degrees below normal, a light snow flurry hit northern Iowa, and Forrest City recorded 15 degrees while Burlington topped at 44 degrees.
Des Moines reports 2127 deaths in January with heart diseases and cerebral hemorrhage as the leading causes. Cancer ranks third, pneumonia fourth, and accidents stand fifth with 139 deaths. Heart diseases total 5423, cerebral hemorrhage 238, cancer 227, pneumonia 186.
Heights School staged The Indian Princess last evening to a full house with enthusiastic applause. The cast featured Rex Lee as Captain John Smith and supporting roles by Eugene Stewart Keith Cook James Easter and others. Costumes and makeup drew cheers as groups of squaws braves and English sailors performed across acts and scenes.
Harold Thomassen suffers a fractured leg and Mona James a back injury with fractures while both are hospitalized in Washington. Car driver Charles Reddings of Chiltons TON West Virginia also treated. The crash happened five miles east of the junction on a poorly maintained section of No 2 under construction. Harold Parks aided in transit to the hospital. Iowa banks report 178.6 million invested in local business loans, up 30.1 million year over year. Small bank loans rise 0.9 million to 7.68 million. credit union loans reach 1.44 million. Deputy banking commissioner Ralph Bunce notes 1937 was strong and 1938 looks favorable.
