Snow blankets central states as Easter nears

A Midwest snowstorm coated the central U.S. from Colorado to Iowa and into Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Nebraska, delaying travel and turning Good Friday gray. Snowfalls ranged from four to seven inches in some areas with drifts up to ten feet, disrupting highways and rail traffic across Des Moines and Chicago region reports.

Martin Defies Church Elders in Indiana Hall Trial

W Clyde Martin, owner of a community hall in Palmyra, Indiana, faced a nine hour hearing after elders of the Church of Christ demanded skating and a slot machine be stopped. Judges urged compliance or expulsion, while Martin announced his candidacy for Congress. Miss Martha Pattie of Mason City is noted as a pioneer life insurance dealer active since 1911.
