Flying Saucer Seen Over Washington Report Sparks Interest
A glowing round object was sighted moving slowly above Washington as Journal photographers captured the only known flying saucer photo. Witness Dillingham Bierwagen of Richland reported the sighting near 9:00 p.m. on Thursday and described a blue white glow with a large circular underside area. The Air Force denies the craft is a new US aircraft.

McPherson Funeral Held in Sigourney
Funeral services for Capt. Paul McPherson son of Mrs. Corda McPherson of Sigourney were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist church in Mt. Ayr. Word arrived March 23 of a B 50 crash near Tucson Arizona where he served as radar officer in SAC and he and his wife lived in Tucson. Relatives from Washington Sigourney Hedrick and other towns traveled to Tucson then returned to Sigourney. He was a twin of Mrs. Fishburn. Burial included military and Masonic rites and he is survived by his wife Frances his mother and several brothers and sisters.

Bacteriologist to Help at State Hospital
Dr. A. A. Mckee of the University of Iowa arrived at the Clarinda state mental hospital to conduct bacteriological studies and isolate the virus blamed for an influenza and pneumonia outbreak. Hospital officials reported 17 inmate deaths since Feb 1 with no deaths since Thursday, and about 40 patients still isolated for influenza grippe or severe cold.
