County Scraps Drive Planned After Meeting of Businessmen
At a county gathering in the Y last night, Tuesday, April 27 was set for a county wide scrap metal collection drive. If rain comes the event moves to Thursday, April 9. Ralph Martin of Washington will head the campaign. Earle Libe, county salvage chairman, notes the nation's scrap iron to June and urgently needs more material. The meeting opened with music by the high school girls sextet and patriotic songs led by Boyd White.

Girl of Four Is Killed by Truck in Waterloo
The 1943 traffic death in Waterloo occurred Wednesday afternoon when 4 year old Dixie Lee Nissen, daughter of Mrs. Harriet Nissen, was run over by a truck while crossing with 7 year old Marilyn Baker. Driver Valentine Schmitz, a farmer near Raymond, did not know he struck anyone until halted by a spectator. The truck carried four tons of feed.

New Blackout Laws Enforced in County and City
Ivan Norton, commander of the county defense corps, says new state blackout laws will be strictly enforced. All lights and streets must be out during a blackout, including windmills and farm buildings, with $100 fines or 30 days in jail for violations.
