In Nashville on September 2 Johnny Sherrill and Tommy Bridges of the Marquez Buick team died instantly when four racing cars collided in the sixth lap of a feature at Cumberland Park. Billy Sherrod and Mechanician Brown died later from injuries after a Studebaker swerved to avoid a boy crossing the track.

Boys’ Joyride Ends With Car Overturn Near Adelphi
A group of youths fled a school board garage in Colum bus to start a joyride. Garner, in charge of the garage, drove the car toward Circleville then Adelphi road. Three miles north of Adelphi the auto hit a rut by a bridge, leaped into the air, skidded, rolled over, and landed upright in a ditch.
