Physical Director McClung of the Y M C A suffered serious burns to the head and neck when gas from an under burner ignited while she was removing a pan from the upper oven. Her hair was singed and her daughter nearby escaped worse injuries. Doctors expect no serious outcome despite the painful burns.

John McLean formerly of this city now living in Columbus is in a very serious condition after being struck by a motor truck while crossing a Columbus street. The impact hurled him to the pavement and caused a deep gash at the back of his head. He was taken to a hospital and has not rallied. He is brother of Mrs. Robert Howat and owner of the Fayette county fair grounds.

City Board awards street paving contracts to local firms
At a Board of Control meeting the North street paving contract from East to the new corporation line was awarded to Sidney Knight of Columbus using Hocking blocks, starting mid March and due by July 15. Circle avenue paving goes to Rosser Harper and Stewart of Bremen, Ohio and must finish much earlier than North street.

Funeral of W. D. Irvine Held in Bloomingburg
The funeral of Mr. W. D. Irvine was held Saturday afternoon at the Bloomingburg residence with Rev. Thomas of the M. E. church and Rev. Kerr of the Presbyterian church officiating. The procession will take the remains to Mt. Vernon for burial at 10:30 Sunday morning.

Brindilla Tank Steamer Seized Off Scotland Again
Halifax reports the American tanker Brindilla has been seized off Scotland and escorted to Aberdeen after a prior October detention. The State Department says a prompt release is expected and notes another Standard Oil vessel, carrying oil, was seized but released. both vessels under American registry. The British claim the Brindilla carried illuminating oil used for aircraft operations.
