Washington reports the Democratic caucus moved shoe machinery to the free list amid a series of amendments to the tariff bill. Louisiana members aligned against free sugar while Broussard proposed gradual reductions on Cuba and non Cuba sugar. The sugar schedule faces an all day battle as House action delays into next week.
Marine National Bank of Ashtabula agrees to furnish funds statement and settle interest claims in full at 3 4 percent for state deposits with late treasurer McKinnon. Cashier W Savage met Hogan and state attorneys in Columbus. Deposits averaged about 50000 during Cameron's 1904 to 1909 term. interest about 6500. Settlement expected to pressure other banks to settle.
Miss Bell Sams of Pasadena was the victim of a peculiar sequence of accidents yesterday. While washing dishes she dropped a soup toureen on her foot breaking a bone. She reached out to save herself and broke her arm on the kitchen sink. She fainted and fell twisting one leg under her and breaking it.
In Guaymas Sonora Mexico April 12 two American sailors J C Klewstow and W W Corrie were killed and three wounded from the US cruiser California after a clash with local police amid rising anti American sentiment along the west coast. An eyewitness consular report says the Americans were drunk and shot by the police chief. The incident prompted Mazatlan Americans to request a cruiser be assigned to the Pacific port. Washington says the State Department is investigating.
In Mobrsville Pennsylvania a partly hollow log coated with snow and ice was dragged five miles to a local sawmill by Charles Geschwindt. While sawing the log in two a rabbit imprisoned inside hopped free and escaped.
In Columbus on April 12 the house voted 92 to 4 for pensions to dependent mothers to keep children at home. The program, part of Governor Harmon's Greenland child code, funds $15 monthly for one child and $7 for each additional child for six months, administered by the juvenile court.
