Cincinnati and Newport face severe flood damage as the Ohio River nears a crest of 69.6 feet, with direct losses estimated over 2 million dollars. Relief efforts are in place, surplus supplies sent to Red Cross, while Dayton seeks federal aid for about 1000 flooded homes.

Paducah reported the levee at Columbus Kentucky failed sending 5 to 10 feet of floodwater through the town. About 1 000 residents evacuated to nearby hills with a few families marooned on upper floors. Refugees may need food and tents after supplies run out in three to four days.

Ohio flood relief funds reach million in total

Governor Cox announced half of the relief funds for Ohio flood sufferers have arrived or are en route, with about $1,000,000 received or promised and $289,000 in cash or drafts. The state plans reconstruction legislation and may adopt the San Francisco relief model based on property and income loss. Wireless stations may be authorized in counties for future emergencies.

Distress calls reach from Cairo, Alexander, Naples It county, Junction, Gallatin, Shawneetown and Me county as Naples notes the river at levee top level.

Cairo Flood Watch Brings Fresh Hope For Levee

Inhabitants of Cairo Indiana expect relief as a strong current on the Ohio River raises hopes that southern breaches have not worsened. Levee holds firm though water climbs with the gauge at 52.6 by 7 PM, same as Fulton Kentucky.
