Bayfield County Sunday School Convention October 4

Washburn Manufacturing opens excelsior plant with steady output

The Washburn Manufacturing Company restarts its excelsior factory after adjustments and plans to produce three to four car loads of products weekly. About twelve to fifteen men will be employed with potential for expansion as more machines are added, marking Washburn's first manufacturing venture with growth prospects for the city.

MEN EMPLOYED AT SHIP YARDS

A crew of ten men began work at the Anchor Shipbuilding yard this week with plans to steadily enlarge the crew. Workers clean the site, dismantle remnants of the old mill, and lay foundations for new buildings to house offices, drawing rooms, and storage. Additional crews will dismantle a DuPont building and move materials to the ship yard for a new plant. The project aims to complete before winter, with a larger yard to follow as the company grows and competes for lake and ocean vessel work.

Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Growth Outpaces Railroads

Madison reports that Wisconsin saw rapid motor vehicle ownership growth from 1905 to 1906, with 1492 owners in 1905 rising in the following years. Bayfield County contender Elma Jacobson at the state fair scored well in spelling and arithmetic but lost on speed. Florence Peterson of Racine won the county contest. Victor Peterson left for Superior to resume studies at the Normal school.
