Madison Wis The Division of Markets received a letter alleging a scheme to raise potato prices by halting digging Farmers were reportedly told not to harvest eight acres sold for 1500 dollars near Tomahawk The division says such claims lack proof and warns they may be propaganda from various sources into circulation
Nearly one hundred du Pont houses erected in 1918 in the city were moved to Duluth where Marshall-Wells plans to re erect them as homes. About 79 structures, including single residences and duplexes, were relocated from Hunter's Park site with work carried out over the summer. The operation provided substantial employment in both cities and proceeded without incident.
The Du Pont company advertises for one hundred additional workers at the Barksdale plant. Openings are in the operating department and for dismantling work. Wages average 55 cents per hour and up.

Anchor Shipbuilding Company of Washburn reports stock subscriptions met to legally transact business and expects to begin operations by late this month or early October. Machinery orders and construction of machine shops will follow, with hiring planned as soon as the yard opens, bringing new life to the community.

A brief from the Ww. Co. T. U. claims a brewery fire in Orange New Jersey shows the danger of liquor, noting the whistle failed as the plant became a candy factory. It argues liquor is dead for now but spirits resurrection may come, urging voters to align faith with ballot choices on election day.

Bayfield County Agricultural Agent W. E. Brubaker distributed a large TNT supply to farmers starting from Barksdale with 4500 pounds in Washburn and rest of county. Demand was heavy so each farmer’s allotment was halved to serve as many as possible. Brubaker noted the county could have used the entire state allotment.

In Washburn three city wards show no Democratic voters in September primaries. Socialists disappeared with no ballots cast. Four Democrats voted their own ticket across wards two five and six while wards one three and four had none. Many voters cast straight Republican ballots.
Machinery for the Washburn Manufacturing excelsior plant arrived last week and crews install it this week. The plant should begin output next week, employing 12 to 20 workers with plans to double capacity. The operation will boost regional employment and allow farmers to market poplar poles and other wood as lands are cleared.
Edwin Johnson formerly of this city and Lenora Ingerwer of Clinton Iowa were married in Clinton on Wednesday September 8. Johnson, son of Mr and Mrs A A Johnson, works as efficiency manager for Curtis Brothers Sash and Door Company. The bride is a Clinton girl. Washburn friends extend congratulations.
John Froseth of Odanah visited yesterday in search of workers for Stearns Lumber. He reported labor scarce conditions in the city and looked for applicants.
The Bayfield County Fair at Iron River last week drew record attendance and a superb display of agricultural products and stock. Exhibits filled all buildings with cattle, sheep, poultry easing crowding, while amusements featured aeroplane flights and races. Friday’s Washburn day drew large crowds despite rain, and Saturday closed a complete program, marking the fair as one of the region’s best.
