Whitney Bros. May Buy Hines Property in Duluth

Whitney Bros. of Duluth looked over the Hines Lumber Company mill and buildings in the city on Tuesday and are reported to be near a purchase. If the deal closes the mill will be operated by the new concern, creating employment for many workers.

M E Church Notes Rally Promises Evening Program

Preparations for the Sunday School Rally are nearly complete and every member should attend the regular session. The public is invited to the program at 7 30 p m in place of the regular service with good music. The pastor preaches in the morning and the Young People's Alliance meets at 6 45 with a welcoming hour for all. The Ladies Aid Society meets at the parsonage on Wednesday October 2.

Washburn High Organizes Football Team and Practice

Washburn High School boys organize a football team with practice in progress and expectations of competitive fall games. A Sunday lecture at the Congregational church by Mrs. Milton Lamoreaux delighted parents and teachers, as she discussed the "Guttical age of boys" with insight and impact.

Steamer Nimick Wrecked in Lake Superior Storm

During a heavy northwester on Lake Superior last week the steamer Nimick bound for Superior with 3000 tons of coal from Cleveland was driven onto rocks near Whitefish Point and broken apart. All five crew members aboard the captain and five others drowned after the ship capsized. The Nimick belonged to Gilchrist Transportation Company and was valued at a significant figure.

Bayfield County fair at Iron River scheduled Wednesday through Friday is postponed to the same dates next week due to poor weather. Track repairs for horse races and farmers preparing exhibits were disrupted, delaying plans for what was expected to be a record show.

Pratt County Chairman Loses Barn in Fire

Former county board chairman Adolph Habert of Pratt suffered a major loss when his 30 by 100 foot barn burned after a lightning strike last Wednesday. A valuable horse died in the blaze and about seventy tons of hay was destroyed, making the total loss substantial.
