Strange Bequest and a Legal Question in Bayfield

In Bayfield the reading of Col. Isaac Wing’s will reveals a romance with Miss Catherine Rittenhouse of Jamestown inheriting $20,000 from the late Colonel. The case of deed wording over timber narrows to whether the word pine was in the 1902 record, prompting a civil suit for $15,000 damages against John D. Young Lumber Co. The Register of Deeds G. A. Calder and his bondsmen face scrutiny, with Calder denying liability and vowing to contest any action. The matter hinges on archival phrasing and will be tried at the Ashland term.
