Twenty seven Bayfield County honor men selected by Uncle Sam left Bayfield Wednesday at 2 39 PM for Camp Grant Rockford Illinois to train for the U S Army. A large send off included a Lamoreaux Hotel banquet and a Gem Theatre patriotic gathering with speeches by P J Savage Rev O W Smith and others praising democracy and the Sammy Backer movement. Bayfield County Exemption Board Calls Fifty More Men
The Bayfield county exemption board met at the courthouse and, after reviewing district reports, voted to call fifty additional men to the colors for examination. Notices were sent to the next fifty on the list for examination on September 28 at ten o’clock in the forenoon. The board acted to fill the quota without delay amid exemptions that threatened a last call shortage.
