Lenroot Wins Big in Republican Nominating Battles

Lenroot carries district by over 5000 votes with wins in most counties except Chippewa where Jenkins home county margins were close. Max Happle of Iron River dominates Sheriff race. Henry O Lien sails for County Treasurer. Alvord tops District Attorney by 27 votes. no contests for Clerk of Court Register of Deeds or County Clerk. General election November 3rd.

Bitter county race notes in Lenroot Jenkins contest

Lenroot partisans predicted large city and county majorities but results shrank. Jenkins backed both city and county wins while Lenroot volunteers worked in kind. County election marked by bitter political clashes and uneven turnout with 510 votes cast. Local tallies show Cook 77 Hatton 80 McGovern 145 Stevenson 163 for senator and other county results. Dr Burns elected Coroner with no opposition.

Hay Press Installed On Ed Stevens Farm

Ed Stevens on Houghton road installed a new $400 hay press this week to bale his hay. G W Hacker of Ungrodt hardware set up the machine amid plans from nearby farmers to bale their hay, reflecting Stevens belief that modern machinery is a good investment.

Hines Lumber mill at Orvnsburg burns down

A report from early week states the Champion Lumber company mill at Orvnsburg owned by Hines Lumber company was destroyed by fire. Several Washburn men expressed concern, but a larger, new mill is expected to be built.
