City Clerk Reports Decrease in City Assessment Roll

City Clerk Axelberg completes the year's assessment roll showing a total decrease of 86,639 from last year. Personal property falls 45,704 while real estate declines 40,847. last year’s total was 1,229,719, this year 1,243,080.

Schultz Caught in Robbery Near Odanab

John Schultz sought in the August 10 1907 robbery of Joe Stanley, missing $84 and a gold watch, was captured near Odanab on Sunday evening and jailed. He had been staying with Stanley that day. the theft occurred while Schultz was away. A black leather pocketbook with about $6.50 and papers was lost between Omaha Depot and Meehan Block.

Blushing Bride Secures License Then Marries in Cathedral

Miss Jennie Herron and Harry Duffey, both locals from Washburn and Duluth areas, secured a marriage license at the district clerk’s office on Saturday and wed Monday morning at the Sacred Heart Cathedral. Herron had expected Duffey to arrive Saturday. the couple’s plans proceeded despite travel hiccups. Herron, formerly of Washburn, and Duffey have deep local ties within the region.

Deer Killed Out of Season On Northern Pacific Train

A deer was struck and killed by a Northern Pacific passenger train coming from Iron River last Wednesday night, splitting the animal in half as the train crossed Sawyer County. Sheriff Clark and District Attorney F T McNamara were involved in related matters including the Lowry larceny case. Also noted is a Beaver colony policy payout of $800 to Mrs. Berglund from the late Walter Berglund.
