Article discusses a proposed $8,000 opera house in Washburn with 600 seats and modern features. Citizens would buy 400 opening tickets at $10 each to support construction, and local events include a pontential public canvass and regional oratorical contests with judges and cadidates named.
An editorial derides government printed envelopes and free advertising asks publishers to publish weather and crop notices gratis. It recalls a past fight where a government envelope printing ban was overturned by Congress, warning that current protections may be reversed next time.
Congressman John J. Jenkins, serving three terms, is the preferred renominat ion candidate endorsed by the delegates. The Superior Telegram urges a united Douglas county delegation to back Jenkins at the district convention. Possible Douglas county Republicans named include Judge Roberts and F A Ross with others undecided or noncandidates.
The Washburn Times notes Bayfield County will likely field a candidate for state senatorial seat, backed by local support. The Rice Lake Leader questions northern bias, warns Barron County may protest, and asserts Bayfield’s merit based candidacy without prior district spoils.

A select Wisconsin group will tour Yellowstone Park in July or August under G. E. Culver professor of geology at Stevens Point Normal School. They travel in a special sleeping and buffet car. Sealed bids for clearing ground for the Washburn Cemetery addition will be received by the Town Clerk until June 1 at 7 30 PM. The Town Board reserves the right to reject any or all bids. By order of the Town Board. C O Sowder Town Clerk.
The C. St. P. M. & O. announces a special round trip fare of 2.75 to St Paul or Minneapolis. Train departs Washburn Saturday May 26 with return from Minneapolis Sunday at 4 pm or Monday 7:30 am. Those planning to go should notify the Omaha depot for arrangements.
The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Score died Tuesday morning following an illness of a week or two. The funeral was held today.
Memorial Day activities will be observed by teachers and pupils at public schools. Exercises begin at 9:30 a.m. at the schools, followed by a march to the Town Hall for exercises at 10:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend.
The Washburn City Band makes its first public appearance next Friday evening with music supplied by the band itself. Composed of talented young men, the event is expected to be a success and the community is urged to attend and support the starter.
The Ladies of the Congregational Church announce a Saturday market at City Drug Store on May 26 from 2:30 to 6:00 p m selling Shame made bread rolls cakes pies doughnuts cream puffs cookies baked beans and brown bread for Sunday dinner.
